Winta (Wintana) Hagos is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice interrogates vibration as ontology, constructing immersive environments at the intersection of sound sculpture, spatial composition, and ancestral epistemology. Her work draws on East African Eritrean and Ethiopian oral traditions as primary research, centering epigenetic memory and embodied listening as both subject and form.
Hagos is the first artist in residence at York University under the mentorship of Dr. Ola Mohammed, where her research engages Black sonic cultures and diasporic sound practices as sites of critical inquiry. She is a collective member of It's Ok* Studios, a Black-led interdisciplinary arts space in Toronto's Queen West, where she contributes to cultural programming, curation, and community development.
